What our Azure cost optimisation calculator checks

The calculator looks at the areas where Azure spend is most often wasted, and where you can reduce Azure costs fastest:

  • Reservations and savings plans: how much steady compute is still paying full pay-as-you-go prices, with reservation savings estimated from live Azure UK prices
  • Rightsizing: virtual machines that are larger than their workload needs
  • Scheduling: development and test machines that run overnight and at weekends
  • Azure Hybrid Benefit: Windows Server and SQL Server licences you may already own
  • Storage: data sitting in expensive tiers, plus old snapshots and unattached disks
  • Idle resources: things that are still billed but no longer used

It also scores how you manage cloud cost today, across tagging, budgets, alerts, ownership, reporting and commitment management, to give you a FinOps maturity rating.

Who it's for

CTOs, CIOs, IT directors, heads of infrastructure, finance leaders and anyone responsible for an Azure bill. You don't need to give us access to your tenant. Rough figures from Azure Cost Management are enough, and it takes about three minutes.

Azure cost optimisation FAQs

How much can you reduce Azure costs by?

It depends on how your estate is set up today. Organisations with no reservations, no out-of-hours scheduling and little rightsizing usually have the most to gain. The snapshot gives you an indicative range based on your answers and current Azure list prices, and a detailed review of your actual usage firms that up.

What is FinOps?

FinOps is the practice of managing cloud spend as an ongoing discipline rather than a once-a-year exercise. It brings IT, finance and the business together so everyone can see what cloud costs, who owns it and where it can be reduced.

Is this Azure savings assessment a quote?

No. It's an indicative estimate based on published list prices. It doesn't include any Enterprise Agreement, CSP or MACC discounts you already receive.

Do you need access to our Azure environment?

Not for the snapshot. If you'd like us to validate the numbers, we can review your real usage data with you.
